Germans Win OSWC for Second Year in a Row
The 2006 Original SWAT World Challenge is now complete and what a competition it was! Little Rock Arkansas rocked when 22 of the world’s best SWAT teams converged to see who would capture the title “best of the best” in this grueling, invitation only competition. The field included teams from Europe, Asia and Canada. The competition, which is all live-fire and head-to-head, went down to the final event with the team from Germany’s GSG-9 edging out San Antonio SWAT by just four points to defend its World Champion title. GSG-9 won four of the eight events, but the American teams put them to the test, with Dallas SWAT winning two events before losing its shooting edge, and San Antonio and Lexington winning one event each. San Antonio was runner-up for the second year in a row but pushed GSG-9 with a consistent performance finishing lower than 4th only twice (6 & 7th) in the eight events. Lexington Kentucky was the surprise team finishing third overall, up from a 7th place finish last year. Lexington came to play and was also consistent never below 8th in any event. Their performance was significant and places them among the elite of SWAT, not a bad for a part time team. The team from Ft. Chaffe, AR, DOE’s Secure Transportation Special Reaction Force (SRF) earned the Top Rookie team award and the Arkansas State Police won the honors as the top State Police team over Indiana, Missouri and Alabama. Over 500 attendees visited the OSWC venue this year and the three days of activities had the largest turnout of teams, sponsors and vendors in the 3-year history of the event. The Little Rock PD SWAT team did a magnificent job as host and there was universal agreement that the 2006 OSWC was the best one yet. The 2007 OSWC competition will return to Little Rock next April and negotiations are under way to make Little Rock the permanent OCWS home. See below for complete results.
